Hello everyone,
October has been another packed month with visits, meetings, and meaningful conversations across the constituency, and a busy agenda in parliament too!
In Mid and South Pembrokeshire
I started the month with a visit to Lower Treginnis, hosted by Farms for City Children. The farm offers city-based children a unique chance to immerse themselves in rural life, learning about sustainable farming, teamwork, and the importance of protecting our natural environment.
Spending time with the brilliant team, and the enthusiastic children, reminded me how important it is that young people are given the opportunity to build a connection with nature.
I was thrilled to host a roundtable with energy industry experts at RWE’s Net Zero Centre, where we discussed some of the pressing challenges facing the renewable energy sector. Our focus was centred on how we can explore all the technologies, and practical solutions, that can make net-zero targets achievable. We discussed everything from offshore wind power, to emerging hydrogen technologies and, crucially, how these can benefit Pembrokeshire’s communities by creating jobs and supporting our local economy.
In Haverfordwest, I held an advice surgery, meeting with residents to hear their concerns firsthand. It is one of the most rewarding parts of my job, getting to offer support and guidance to help constituents facing a wide range of issues.
Later in the month, I had the pleasure of visiting Pembrokeshire College’s new Energy Skills Hub. This forward-looking initiative is dedicated to equipping students with practical skills needed for careers in renewable energy and green technologies. The Energy Skills Hub is an impressive resource for our area and will play a critical role in preparing our young workforce to be leaders in the green economy—a key part of Pembrokeshire’s commitment to a sustainable future. The Labour Party is committed to investing in industries of the future and I am pleased to see young people being offered opportunities that have not been available in Pembrokeshire in the past.
Alongside these initiatives, I also hosted a Support Surgery in Pembroke Dock with Citizens Advice, and met with the local health board to discuss ways to improve access to primary care in our communities. With demand on healthcare services so high, I emphasised to the health board how important it is that better pathways are created for rural residents, who face additional barriers to accessing services.
Improving access to healthcare remains a top priority, and I am committed to address these challenges proactively to ensure services can be improved.
In Parliament
I was also proud to support the Employment Rights Bill this month. Ensuring fair treatment and job security is essential to our community’s well-being, and this bill strengthens workers’ rights, paving the way for a more equitable workplace culture across Pembrokeshire and beyond.
Finally, this month I was also able to deliver my maiden speech in parliament which you can watch below. It is a huge honour to represent this fantastic county in Westminster and I am also pleased to be able to continue flying the Pembrokeshire flag on both the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Welsh Affairs Select Committee.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to these events and discussions.
Warm regards,
Henry Tufnell MP
